Using D-SoundPRO

5.2. MENUS

5.2.1. Menu: FILE

MENU ITEM	TOOL	ACTION
New	-	To create a new Sound Document from scratch. From the relevant Dialog Box you can choose if the new Sound Document will be mono or stereo and its Sampling Frequency
Open		To open an AIFF, SDII or .WAV sound files. You can listen the by pushing the relevant button. D-SoundPRO displays only AIFF, SDII or .WAV files into the selected directory.
Close	-	To close the active Sound Document. D-SoundPRO will ask for saving changes.
Close all	-	To close all the Sound Documents you have previously opened. D-SoundPRO will ask for saving changes.
Save		To save the active Sound Document
Save as...	-	To save the active Sound Document asking for a new name (AIFF, SDII or .WAV formats are available)
Save All	-	To save all the Sound Documents you have previously opened
Preferences		To open a dialog box to enter your preferences (see next sections)
Quit	-	To quit the program

 5.2.2. Menu: EDIT

 

MENU ITEM	TOOL	ACTION
Undo/Redo	-	If it is available undoes or Redoes the last command.
Cut		To cut the selection copying the sound wave into the Clipboard
Copy		To copy the selection into the Clipboard
Clear		To clear (set to zero) the selection
Paste	-	To paste (insert) the Clipboard sound wave into the active Sound Document starting at marker position
X-Paste		To paste (insert) the Clipboard sound wave into the active Sound Document starting at marker position with a selectable volume and fade-in/fade-out times.
X-Append	-	To paste (insert) the Clipboard sound wave into the active Sound Document starting at the end of the sound with a selectable volume and fade-in time.
Repeat	-	To paste (insert) the Clipboard sound wave into the active Sound Document starting at the end of the sound with a selectable volume and fade-in time.
Mix		To Mix the Clipboard sound wave with the Sound Document wave starting at marker position
Truncate		To truncate the sound wave: - before the marker position - before start loop point positions - after the marker position - after end loop point position - outside the loop points positions - outside the selection (if any) positions
Extract		To extract: - the left channel (only for stereo sounds) - the right channel (only for stereo sounds) - the selection (if any) - autoextract: it opens the autoextraction dialog box (see next sections)
Select All		To select all the wave in the Sound Document
Select Loop		To set the selection from the start loop point to the end loop point
Loop Selection		To set the start and end loop points at the start and the end of the selection
Stereo To Mono		To mix the left and the right (50% volume each) into only one mono channel
Mono To Stereo		To duplicate the mono channel to left and right channels of a stereo sound
Stereo to L&R		To extract the right and left channels of a stereo sounds into two new sound documents (only for stereo sounds)
L&R to Stereo		To build the right and left channels of a new stereo sounds from two different mono sound documents (only if you have already loaded two different sounds)

5.2.3. Menu: OPTIONS

 

MENU ITEM	TOOL	ACTION
MIDI Handshaking	-	To Enable/Disable the handshaking during MIDI communications (see next sections)
Auto Zero	-	To Enable/Disable the handshaking during MIDI communications (see next sections)
Lock Loop Length	-	To Lock/Unlock the loop length: if the loop length is locked, at each movement of the end loop point from the loop floating window corresponds an equal movement of the start loop point (not the contrary).
Fast Wave Display	-	To make the display of the Sound Document wave faster but not using a lower resolution. Useful using long sound files.
Moving Marker	-	To Enable/Disable the moving marker when the sound document plays by using the speaker button on the Tools Floating Window

 5.2.4. Menu: Network

 

MENU ITEM	TOOL	ACTION
MIDI	-	To select if D-SoundPRO will use MIDI communications and, in case, if D-SoundPRO will use the OMS driver (this option is dimmed if OMS is not available at startup) or its Internal Midi Driver.
Transmit		To transmit the active Sound Document to the sampler/synthesizer (see next sections)
Receive		To receive into a new Sound Document the sound wave from the sampler/synthesizer (see next sections)
MIDI Channel	-	To set the default MIDI channel
Device Number	-	To set the default MIDI Device number
OMS MIDI Setup...	-	To Open the OMS MIDI Setup window (dimmed if OMS is not present or if you have not selected it as MIDI Manager)
OMS Studio Setup	-	To Open the OMS Studio Setup window (dimmed if OMS is not present or if you have not selected it as MIDI Manager)
All Note Off	-	To send a series of note off message to all MIDI channels (dimmed if the Virtual Keyboard Window is closed)

5.2.5. Menu: COMMANDS

MENU ITEM	TOOL	ACTION
Record		To record a new Sound Document (see next sections)
Play		To play the selection (if any) or the all sound wave, looping it if the loop mode is set to forward
Digital Effect		To apply a digital effect to the current sound (see next sections)
Digital Filter/EQ		To apply a digital filter or equalizer to the current sound (see next sections)
Change Gain...		To change the volume of the current selection or the all wave of the Sound Document by a programmable amount and fade-in/fade-out times.
DC Suppression		To suppress the mean value. Use this function if your sound is not oscillating around the zero level.
Invert		To invert the selection (if any) or the all sound wave. This function is equivalent to add 180° to the phase of each component of the sound
Normalize/Normalize all	-	To normalize (maximize) the selection (if any) or the all sound wave of the current Sound Document or of all the Sound Documents you have opened. This function is very useful to amplify the signal level to the maximum available dynamic range.
Reverse		To reverse the selection (if any) or the all sound wave
Zoom		To: - Zoom In, Out or In to the selection (if any) - Max Zoom In (no Tool button given)
Fade		- to apply a Fade In to the selection - to apply a Fade Out to the selection
Loop Mode	-	To set the loop mode to Off, Forward, Alternate or Reverse. The Macintosh is capable to reproduce only forward loops, but all types are supported over MIDI.
Loop Cmds / Convert ALT->FWD		Because many samplers (and the Mac, too) doesn't support the ALTERNATE Loop mode, this function allows to convert the current Sound Document to play the ALT loop using a FWD loop mode (dimmed if Loop Mode isn't ALTERNATE).
Loop Cmds / Auto Loop...		To apply the algorithm for basic Auto Loop (see next sections)
Loop Cmds / Rhythm Loop		To apply the algorithm for a Rhythm Auto Loop (see next sections)
Loop Cmds / X-Fade Loop...		To apply an advanced Cross Fading Looping algorithm to the current loop selection (see next sections)
Detect Pitch...		To detect the pitch of the sound (see next sections)
Detect BPM...		To detect the BPM tempo of the sound (see next sections)
Resample...		To resample the Sound Document wave. The new sampling frequency must be in 8÷48 kHz range.
Pitch Shifting...		To change the pitch of the sound (see next sections)
Freq. Shifting...		To change the pitch of the sound without change its duration in time (see next sections)
Time Stretching...		To change the duration in time of the sound without change its pitch (see next sections)

5.2.6. Menu: SYNTH

 

MENU ITEM	TOOL	ACTION
Play From Mac	-	To enable/disable the Mac Keyboard to play the current sound (see par. 4.4 for the Key Map).
All Voices Off		Turn off all the voices of the Virtual Synthesizer actually playing
Keyboard Local On	-	If Local On is selected, mouse clicking a key on the Virtual Keyboard makes the sample in the active Sound Document (if any) play.
Wave Generators...		To generate a new synthetic sound using an 'Analog' interfaces (see next sections 1, 2, 3).

5.2.7. Menu: SPECIALS

MENU ITEM	TOOL	ACTION
Import S-Disk...		To import sound waves from 3 1/2 disks in Roland S50, S330, S550 formats
Export S-Disk...		To export a sound waves to 3 1/2 disks in Roland S50, S330, S550 formats (see next sections)
Import RAW...		To import sound waves from a file in Raw format (see next sections)
Export RAW...		To import sound waves from a file in Raw format (see next sections)
Change S-Loop	-	To correct the discrepancy of one sample in loop positioning between mac and many synth/samplers
Auto Change S-Loop	-	To correct the discrepancy of one sample in loops positioning between mac and many synths/samplers only for transmission/reception over the network.
Resample 15 kHz Tones	-	Because many samplers don't support a sampling frequency so low, this function allows auto-resample of 15 kHz Tones porting sounds from Roland diskettes. Set the new sampling frequency from the Preferences Dialog.
Auto Normalize	-	To automatically apply the normalization to all the sound waves ported from a Roland 3 1/2 diskette.
Insert Sampler CDROM	-	Because most samplers use a CDROM format not Macintosh compatible, when you insert it in the CDROM Driver the Mac tries to mount and then to format it. Use this function to insert a sampler CDROM without allow the MacOS to mount it.
Eject Sampler CDROM	-	Because using the above function the MacOS doesn't mount the CDROM, you cannot eject it without this function.
