Introduction

D-SoundPRO 3.5.1 is the newest version of the D-SoundPRO shareware sound editor for Macintosh computers.

D-SoundPRO works on any Macintosh based on a 68020 or better µProcessor using System 7.1 (or later) and is also System 7-savvy, 32-bit clean, and compatible with virtual memory and '040 caching. It requires Sound Manager 3.1 and a Macintosh supporting 16 bits audio output. Optionally. It provides SCSI/MIDI interfacing to / from various synthesizers.

Throughout this User's Guide you will see all the D-SoundPRO capabilities.

D-SoundPRO is a shareware product. Shareware means that you can give it away to your friends as long as you don't charge for it. It also means that, if you use it, you are expected to pay a registration fee of only $39 (USD) - for D-SoundPRO 2.x registered users, the upgrade fee is only $10 (USD). I expect that as a Macintosh user you'll support the shareware concept, which is capable to reduce the cost of software production by a factor ten.

Japanese and Italian versions of D-SoundPRO application and User Manuals are now available. Please contact the Customer Support for assistance (refer to Registration chapter in the last pages of this user manual). Also German and French versions of D-SoundPRO will be available very soon.

2.3. What do I need to use D-SoundPRO?

D-SoundPRO works on any Macintosh family computer based on a 68020 or better µProcessor with at least 2.5 megabytes of free memory. It requires System 7.1 or later (it runs also under Mac OS8) and Sound Manager 3.1 (which is built in into System 7.5.3). If you want to edit stereo files at 44100 kHz or to port sounds from Roland 3 1/5 disks, a Mac with a least 4 megabytes of free memory is recommended. If you are going to use MIDI, you can use D-SoundPRO Internal Midi Driver or optionally the Open Midi System (OMS) 1.2 (or better) by Opcode. You can download OMS from Opcode's web site (www.opcode.com). D-SoundPRO is compatible also with FreeMidi 1.34 (www.motu.com) or newer, thanks to its OMS Emulator.

D-SoundPRO runs in native PPC mode if you are using a PowerMac. In this case the functions to modify sounds and the graphics routines run very faster than on 68k Macintoshes.

2.4. What do I need to know to use D-SoundPRO?

This User's Guide assumes that you know how to operate the Macintosh and are familiar with the basic Macintosh terminology such as point, click, drag & the Finder. If you aren't familiar with these terms, you should refer to the Macintosh User's Guide to learn the basic operations of using the Macintosh. Optionally, this User's Guide assumes that you know what are MIDI and SCSI. If you are not interested to receive or transmit sounds over MIDI and SCSI, you can omit to read the chapter in question.
